BARBERA

It is a representative grape variety of the Asti and Monferrato areas. This versatile wine can be enjoyed young, when its primary aromas are most evident, or in its superiore classification, where aging in wood (for a minimum of 12 months, as required by the regulations) enhances its complexity. The young version pairs well with cured meats and Italian first courses, while the aged version is excellent with red meats, game, and mature cheeses.

Designations:

  • Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG

  • Barbera d’Asti DOCG

  • Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG

  • Barbera del Monferrato DOC

FREISA

Freisa is mainly grown in the northern part of the province of Asti and produces a deep ruby red wine with aromas of rose and raspberry, a dry taste, and pleasant tannic sensations. It can be produced as a young wine, but it is also suitable for aging; after 12 months, it qualifies for the superiore classification.

Designations:

  • Freisa d’Asti DOC

  • Monferrato DOC Freisa

GRIGNOLINO

Grignolino is produced in the area between Asti and Casale Monferrato. Defined by some authors as an “anarchic wine” due to its unique characteristics, it has a slightly pale ruby red colour, a delicate aroma, a pleasantly tannic taste, and a slightly bitter aftertaste. It pairs well with starters, Italian first courses, white meats, and even some fish dishes.

Designations:

  • Grignolino d’Asti DOC

  • Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese DOC

MONFERRATO DOC

The Monferrato DOC encompasses both native Piedmontese and international grape varieties, produced either individually or as blends. The wines may be white, rosé, or red, and depending on the grape variety and winemaking method, can be enjoyed young or aged. In particular, aged versions (including blends) often develop complex and distinctive characteristics, sometimes referred to as “Super Monferrato.”

Grape varieties include:

  • Nebbiolo

  • Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Freisa

  • Chiaretto

  • Cortese

  • Chardonnay

  • Sauvignon Blanc

  • Timorasso

RUCHE’ DI CASTAGNOLE MONFERRATO

This red wine is produced exclusively in seven municipalities of the Monferrato area (Castagnole Monferrato, Montemagno, Grana Monferrato, Portacomaro, Refrancore, Viarigi, and Scurzolengo). It has delicate tannins, moderate body, and good smoothness, with a distinctive bouquet of floral and spicy notes. It pairs perfectly with cured meats, Italian first courses, white meats, and medium-aged cheeses.

MALVASIA DI CASORZO DOC

Produced in the province of Asti, in Casorzo and neighbouring villages, Malvasia di Casorzo has origins dating back to the 13th century, probably linked to the Greek port of Monemvasia. It is a sweet and aromatic wine, pale ruby red in colour, with hints of fresh fruit and jam. Thanks to its low alcohol content, it is pleasant at any time of day and pairs beautifully with desserts.

SPUMANTI

  • Martinotti Method

  • Traditional Method (known in France as méthode champenoise): secondary fermentation in the bottle, aging on the lees, riddling, and disgorging before release.
