THE PROJECT

In the year 2004, the BOTTEGA DEL VINO DI MONCALVO opens its doors.
The idea was born from a collaboration between the municipality of Moncalvo and a group of local wine producers, with the aim of promoting and enhancing the local winemaking tradition and the Monferrato territory.
The headquarters of the Bottega del Vino is located within the ancient walkways of the 14th-century fortress, which preserve the key features of the period.
The first meetings between the then municipal administration and a group of producers, to evaluate the feasibility of the project, date back to the year 1998.
In the year 2000, renovation work began under the careful supervision of the Superintendence. A first part of the spaces was restored and renovated in 2004, the year of the inauguration.
In 2012, the restoration of the second part of the walkways was completed, bringing them — through extensive work — back to their current and original splendor.
The Bottega del Vino was founded by thirteen producers and the municipality of Moncalvo. It is a non-profit association recognized by the Piedmont Region and listed among the regional wine shops of Piedmont.
In the following years, more producers joined the thirteen founding members, bringing the total to the current twenty-seven. It’s worth noting that, alongside traditional wine producers, local food artisans and extra virgin olive oil producers from Monferrato have also joined the initiative.
This latter product has for years represented a true innovation for Piedmont, and it is precisely in the Moncalvo area that the pioneers of olive cultivation — not only in Monferrato but throughout Piedmont — were found.
The association's logo encloses the word "BOTTEGA" inside a barrel. It was created by Moncalvo artist Mario Pavese (1923–2013), whose unique sensitivity in portraying and capturing the humanity of rural life in the past made him known beyond the borders of Monferrato.
